Hopeful

Finally, we non-superstitious ones are coming together. The outlook does seem bright. Thank you for this wonderfully creative endeavor.  Robert, USA

Your task is enormous; these silly superstitions, be they religious or otherwise are so ingrained in our societies and in so many… minds that it seems highly improbable that we shall ever reach a situation where independent, rational thought is the norm. We can but try. I wish you well. Andrew, UK

I've become so pessimistic about the future of Humanism - thanks very much for a moment of hope that my descendants won't be forced to live in a world haunted and controlled by unseen forces.  Bob, USA

I think this is a great idea, and I hope it will spread. It does seem a bit silly at first, but then in 10 or 20 years it might become the norm..  Andry, USA

Great site...I look forward to seeing where this movement goes! Paul, USA

Nice initiative. I hope it goes somewhere (I'll try to do my part to see that it does). Pepijn, Netherlands

I support the right to not believe in anything supernatural. Thank you for your efforts and I would like to see this group become socially, culturally and politically active, if possible.  Raj, USA

(I)t’s about time those of us who are free of a religious bias got up and started being positive about it. Let us go forth and change the world (not convert it). I could throw in loads of quotes but how about 'Religion is a poor excuse for thought' or 'The most important revolutions are those that happen every day in the mind of the individual'. Keep up the good work and please let me know how I can help spread the word without getting evangelical. Keith - proud to be a Bright.  Keith, UK

I think it is going to be great to be a Bright!  Andrew, USA

This is a great idea! I hope it will accomplish some good. Ray, USA

I'm not sure I like the name, but thank you for giving people this forum. I have a sincere hope that hordes of atheists will come out of the woodwork to support you.   Jason, USA

Not sure I have much faith in the political process, but it excited me to read the editorial and to somehow join with other like-minded people.  Carol, USA

At long last - a light at the end of the tunnel!  Carolyn Mitra, UK

A breath of fresh, inspiring, wonderful air! It may help those of us who have become disillusioned to get back in the game.  Amanda, USA

At last a word (hopefully it will become established and understood) that describes where I come from without having to explain to people every time I'm asked! And there have been a lot of times over a long time, in private, in public and in print!  David, UK

It's nice to have a positive word to describe myself. I'm not ashamed to be an Atheist, but, unfortunately, the word does carry a negative connotation.  Scott, USA

I've been an atheist for a long time and I hope this word catches on, it would be nice to see more people come out of the closet.  Alex, Canada

Hope to see more people like the brights around who like to think about what is happening all around them instead of leaving it up to some kind of mythology to solve the puzzle and taking it by faith…"faith, believing in something that you know ain’t so."  Wesley, US

"I sit quietly with my eyes closed and listen for the march of several million feet. They are coming from all over the world; awake, alert, and BRIGHT. They are coming together out of a true sense of freedom and unwillingness to remain *[in the shadow of] those who follow irrational theological ideology anymore! Although the sound is distant and faint, it makes me calm; I know that I am not alone, and I want to go on."
Note: Sue had the original thought for this above statement. It was sent in by Charlotte, who had “tweaked it a bit by substituting for “subservient to the will of” the bracketed portion above and said:” after reading your original message about the brights’ movement, I felt immediately that unknowingly she had hit on nail on the head. I simply "tweaked" it a bit because of my enthusiasm with respect to the brights.  USA
